Gear you may need:

Hiking shoes with gaiters, Layers for clothing (temps will vary daily), Rain gear, Duffel bag for porter, Daypack, Sleeping bag (liner recommended), Trekking poles, Headlamp, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Camp shoes, Gloves, Water bottles, Toiletries- personal hygiene items, Hand/Toe warmers, Camera, Binoculars, Neck warmers, Electrolyte tablets/powders, Battery phone charger, Altitude sickness medication (speak with your doctor). A journal to record your memories of the trek.

Gear rental is available if you don’t want to transport everything for the climb. Check with your guide’s company for the availability of items for rent.

Prepare for the unexpected:

You will need insurance for evacuation of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the instance of injury or illness during the trek. it’s often mandatory for organized climbs because the cost of a helicopter evacuation is extremely expensive. Your travel insurance policy must specifically cover high-altitude trekking and emergency helicopter evacuation up to 6000 meters (20,000 ft) be eligible for rescue services like Kili MedAir. If you plan to go on safari or visit Zanzibar after the climb, ensure the policy covers those activities as well.
