The Ngorongoro Crater is also a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its stunning wildlife, including the “Big Five”- Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino. It is an ecological land with over 25,000 large animals and a huge variety of birds.

It is the world’s largest volcanic caldera, formed by a volcanic collapse 2-3 million years ago. Game drives are a must to view the animals but visitors will also see flamingos and should experience archaeological and cultural tours within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Oldavi Gorge is significant for human evolution due to many archaeological finds. It is often called the original “Garden of Eden.”

A very good chance of seeing the Big 5 when you only have one day for a game drive, but you will want more.

Accomodations in Ngorongoro area include a variety of lodges ranging from luxury lodges on the crater rim to more affordable options.
